What admin work can be automated first?
The admin tasks that are repetitive, follow a clear rule, and don't require judgment — sending reminders, compiling a status update from data that already exists, routing a request to the right person. Anything that requires weighing context specific to a one-off situation is a worse first candidate; start with the tasks you could write a simple checklist for.
A quick way to sort candidates: if you could hand a new employee a one-page instruction sheet and expect them to do the task correctly every time, it's a strong automation candidate. If the instructions would need to say "use your judgment," it's not.
Starting with the easiest, most repetitive tasks also builds trust in the system faster — a few small wins make it much easier to hand over larger, more consequential admin work later.
